i-trace is a system enabling individuals to track their own luggage, avoiding transportation errors and giving airlines a unique selling point on the market. Airline passengers are given an i-trace tag for their luggage according to how they got to the airport. The tag itself contains a passive chip, which is encoded for the customer's flight. Throughout the airport, gates are installed to track the luggage. When a tag passes through one of these gates, it is scanned and the airline centre receives the information and sends an automatic mail response to the owner's mobile phone. The passenger can always be kept informed about the location of his luggage. On arrival at the final destination, the tag is dropped into a labeled bin.
